Description of the Journey

Located approximately 137 kilometers south of Cusco, Palccoyo can be reached in about three and a half hours by road. The journey takes travelers through picturesque Andean villages, agricultural valleys, and traditional communities where farming and alpaca breeding remain an essential part of daily life.

After passing through the town of Combapata, the route continues along a scenic mountain road that gradually climbs toward the Palccoyo area. Along the way, visitors can enjoy stunning views of the countryside, local communities, and the dramatic landscapes of the southern Andes.

The hiking adventure begins near the control point at an altitude of 4,830 meters (15,846 feet) above sea level. Unlike other high-altitude treks, the trail to Palccoyo is relatively short and easy, making it suitable for a wide range of travelers.

As you walk through the area, you will be surrounded by panoramic views of snow-capped mountains, including the majestic Ausangate Mountain, one of the most sacred and impressive peaks in the Cusco region.
