Itinerary:

Singrenacocha Lake – Nature, Tranquility & High-Andean Landscapes

Description

Escape the crowds and discover the serene beauty of Singrenacocha Lake, one of the hidden natural treasures of the province of Quispicanchi. Surrounded by vast Andean landscapes and spectacular views of the snow-capped peaks of the Vilcanota Mountain Range, this peaceful destination is perfect for travelers seeking relaxation, nature, and authentic mountain scenery.

The name Singrenacocha combines the word “sirena” (mermaid) with the Quechua term “cocha,” meaning lake, reflecting the local legends and mystical stories associated with this beautiful body of water. Its crystal-clear glacial waters, striking turquoise color, and tranquil atmosphere create an ideal setting for photography, contemplation, and a deep connection with nature.

Far from the busiest tourist routes, Singrenacocha Lake offers a unique opportunity to experience the untouched beauty of the Peruvian Andes in a peaceful and inspiring environment.

Itinerary

The adventure begins between 4:00 and 4:30 AM with pickup from your hotel in Cusco. From there, we travel through the scenic province of Quispicanchi, passing the town of Urcos before joining the Interoceanic Highway toward the district of Ocongate.

Along the route, travelers will enjoy spectacular views of rivers, agricultural landscapes, traditional Andean communities, and native wildlife, including llamas, alpacas, and occasionally vicuñas. The journey continues through the villages of Tinke, Pampacancha, and Mahuayani, offering an authentic glimpse into life in the high Andes.

After approximately three hours of travel, we arrive in Yanacancha and continue toward Singrenacocha Lake. As we approach the area, breathtaking views of the Vilcanota Mountain Range dominate the landscape. The majestic Ausangate Mountain, standing at 6,384 meters (20,945 feet) above sea level, is the most prominent peak and one of the most sacred mountains in Andean culture. Weather permitting, visitors may also admire the impressive Callangate Mountain, another towering peak of the region.

Upon reaching Singrenacocha Lake at approximately 4,350 meters (14,272 feet) above sea level, we enjoy a gentle walk around its shores. The easy trail allows visitors to fully appreciate the surrounding scenery, capture stunning photographs, relax in nature, or even practice meditation in one of the most peaceful settings in the Andes.

The vibrant turquoise waters of the lake contrast beautifully with the surrounding mountains and snow-capped peaks, creating an unforgettable landscape that remains largely untouched by mass tourism.

After enjoying the area, there will be free time to rest and enjoy a snack. Visitors are encouraged to bring a lunch box or snacks for the excursion. In the afternoon, we begin our return journey to Cusco, arriving at approximately 5:00 PM after an unforgettable day immersed in nature.
